The Great Internet Crash of ‘07

There’s a funny spoof of what might happen if the internets were to suddenly fail over at TechCrunch. The Onion is there. [link]

Ok - so, I haven’t fully implemented a GTD workflow. BUT, I have managed to move to Lifehacker’s trusted trio method of clearing your inbox. Let me tell you: it’s wonderful.

GTD: Getting Things Done

It’s about time I overhaul my work flow. I’m in need of a comprehensive system for ensuring everything I do gets processed.

I’m going to subscribe to the nearly-fanatical school of thought that is GTD. For those not in the know, GTD is David Allen’s process of Getting Things Done.

I’m going to start by trying Lifehacker’s: Empty your inbox with the Trusted Trio system.

We’ll see how this works out, I plan on chronicling my adventures into GTD here on Creativity Unleashed: The Blog.

TechCrunch and InviteShare: A match made in heaven

InviteShare
Recently a new web 2.0 service, InviteShare, launched which allows people to not only share invites to private betas, but it awards points for doing so. It’s a great idea that encourages invite sharing.

Unfortunately the bittersweet problem is that there were just too many users. The site would frequently be down and using the site on a regular basis was trying beyond belief. But as I said, bittersweet - this was a good thing, as the more people that are active, the more invites there are to go around.

TechCrunchMike Arrington over at TechCrunch just announced they’ve purchased InviteShare. This is great news and just makes total sense. TechCrunch gives pretty solid reviews of the up-and-coming web 2.0 services and apps that are sprouting up left and right. Couple that with people being able to now easily acquire private beta invites and you’ve got a match made in heaven. Add in TechCrunch’s already overwhelming popularity and ability to handle large amounts of traffic and you’ll see why I’m pumped about this. Once they stabilize the service it’ll be much easier to use and navigate the site.

Students Trade Bibles for Porn

Looks like a couple guys in Texas are fed up with the constant god mongering. Similar to the toys-for-guns program, these guys are running a ‘porn-for-bibles’.

“We consider the bible to be a very negative force in the history of the world,” student Ryan Walker said. Walker is part of a student group that calls itself the Atheist Agenda.

Good for their initiative - probably could’ve been done a little more tastefully. But I give ‘em an A for effort.

Got a Color Craving?

COLOURloversI’ve been using COLOURlovers for quite some time. It’s always been an amazing resource for both inspiration as well as assistance in choosing color palettes when designing sites.

A couple things that make this site unique over other color-palette-sites is that you can create palettes as well as rank other people’s. If you decide you like a certain color within a palette you can simply click on it to see what other palettes it’s been included in.

For all your color craving needs.

Sloppy Love Jingle

Album: Gym Class Heroes - Papercut ChroniclesFrom: Sloppy Love Jingle, Pt. 1

By: Gym Class Heroes

From the second she shimmied in
I was intrigued by her essence
And my first instincts to make sure that my presence was felt
Simple and plain
I’m probably jumping the train
But all I could see was my name engraved on her belt
Hit the pause button
Damn!

Second’d

Finally was able to monkey-rig one of my extra boxes into a BitTorrent box. It really was the funniest thing - it would have intermittent boot failures. Sometimes it would read off an install CD, and sometimes it decided to take a nap.

So I’ve finally got a dedicated Bittorrent box running. Add to this my NSlu2 (or Network Attached Storage Unit by Linksys) that has a 500Gb Western Digital MyBook attached, and you might begin to envision the home network I’m building.

I think I’d like to draw up a flow chart of my current network, and then one of where I plan to be a year or two from now.

How’s the beer?

Hello, and welcome… again.

Well, it’s about time this thing came to surface… again. It’s been awhile - how’ve you been?

Stay awhile, have a beer - there’s some cold ones in the frid-no not those, I’ve been saving those for, um, ‘other’ guests. Yea, you can have one of those.

Anyways, like I was saying before: Welcome! It ain’t much right now, but that’ll change… you know when I can get the contractors in here to redo the carpeting, maybe repaint these walls. We’ll see.

It’s really been too long - I know we had some rough times, but I swear I’m a changed man. No really, I am - I can be better. I’ll even write for you twice a week! You don’t believe me? Yea, you’re probably right - maybe I’ll try just doing once a week for now.

Le sigh.

This’ll be interesting.
